The Yachtie Life
Our Journey Continues....
Our Journey Continues....
Relocating is stressful.  I didn’t want to go through that much work just to then be living in a boat on a lake.  I began thinking about one of the things I gave up to spend my weekends sailing… the beach.  A decent beach in Texas is a 6-hour drive from our home.  We don’t do that  anymore.

I love the beach more than any other environment.  Yes, even more than sailing.  Being at the ocean, the sand and sun on my skin.  The distinctive scent of the salty water, the strong breezes.   And the constant lulling sound the waves make as they repeatedly kiss the shore.

Initially, we decided that the northwest coast of Florida would be a great place to start over.  I was even in conversation with St Andrew’s Bay Marina about slip availability and costs.  Then Hurricane Michael hit at the latter part of 2018.  Panama City was directly hit.  Just about everything was completely wiped out, including the marina I was speaking with.

It was a harsh wake up call for me.  I didn’t want to move to the most active hurricane state in the US.  We began to search.  There must be somewhere in the world that doesn’t have hurricanes.  Then we found it.  The Mediterranean Sea.

In the search for a homeport, we changed our minds often due to residency limitations.  First Malta, then Italy, finally settling on the tiny country of Croatia, with its thousand islands.

That was really exciting.  Exotic port, amazing food, incredible people.  It was the perfect fairytale dream.
Then the Rona struck.  Then it went on for what seemed like forever.  International travel became precarious.  So, we've had a change in our plans.  We are making a pitstop in Florida for 2 years.  We sold the house, downsized considerably, sold SV My Salvation, bought the new, albeit smaller than we were planning boat, left Texas, arrived in Florida, moved on to this next boat, SY LiveLaughSail II.  It's a gorgeous Jeanneau 45 DS.  And we live on it, every single day!

Cap't Guy is back at work at a collision center.  I am diligently working to get the businesses solid.  We have paid off credit cards, have the new boat and insurance payments.  Sold the trucks. Bought a new SUV.  Fixed The Beast.

We're working on getting our captains licenses.  Trying to figure out how best to invest our money for the biggest payoff for the two years.  Doing repairs and upgrades on the new boat so she is 'sell-ready' in May 2024.

We still plan on buying the next boat cash, so we have no payments, just slip fees when needed, food money and a way to splurge occasionally.  Follow us on this journey...

From nuts and bolts to anecdotes.  This section talks about how to sail, how to be effective and how to get the most out of your time under sail.  Many people just getting started are overwhelmed with all there is to know, like trying to take a drink from a fire hydrant.  But every venture you go on improves your understanding.  Over time we all figure it out.  This part's got everything we’ve learned and all that we are still learning.
